Depending on her needs, she might be better off using a hosted service like Shopify. Before considering any cart package, check it out and see if it fits.
If you're willing to spend some money ($300 IIRC), LemonStand is pretty cool if you want a solid, modern, implementation that makes no assumptions about your store design/layout. http://www.lemonstandapp.com. My experience with lemonstand was good. At one point, I needed a hook added to their event system. I posted on their forum and it was implemented by the developers within something like 4 hours.
