In the end, coding standards are much like the vermouth in Winston
Churchill's Martini recipe:
6 parts gin
Bottle of dry vermouth
Cocktail olive

Shake gin in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled
cocktail glass and look at the bottle of vermouth. Garnish with olive.

You should be familiar with them, understand what they are trying to
convey, and know when to keep them the hell out of your cocktail.
