An update:

Did some more testing and found out something interesting. The emails 
sent to the mail server are not blocked or filtered in any way. It turns 
out that they seem to never even arrive at the server. So the latest 
line of thought is that there could be a problem with the DNS record and 
that the ISP's DNS Server may not have the "latest" information.
